The Role of TV Programmes in Developing Children's Language Skills
This study aims to examines the impact of television programs in developing children’s language skills, with a focus on the deficiencies in the language used in TV programming. To explore these issues, the authors conducted a comprehensive survey across all regions of Kazakhstan and analysed the findings. Based on respondents’ feedback, the study identified primary challenges and drew conclusions grounded in scholarly perspectives. The survey addressed several aspects, including the language of children's television programmes and its effect on linguistic development, children's fluency in Kazakh, the extent to which media language conforms to linguistic norms, common speech deficiencies among children, and the amount of time children spend watching television. The survey involved 407 participants. Lexical deviations in children's language were analysed using data from a social questionnaire completed by respondents. Conducted across diverse demographic and geographic regions, the survey results show the frequency and impact of various social factors contributing to lexical deviations, including children's exposure to television. The study also highlighted the role of parents in fostering native language development (Kazakh) and confirmed that the surrounding environment – especially television – affects children’s adherence to lexical norms. The questionnaire was administered in the state language, with respondents given the opportunity to provide additional comments. Based on the findings, the study assessed the impact of television on children's language development and proposed recommendations for linguistic, cultural, and social interventions.

The development of research competence is a critical mandate for modern teacher education, yet a significant gap persists between theoretical preparation and practical application. This study investigates the formation of research culture among future and practicing teachers in the Republic of Kazakhstan, aiming to identify key components of research competence (motivational, cognitive, operational), diagnose structural barriers, and propose a model for integrating research activities into Initial Teacher Education (ITE). Employing a descriptive mixed-methods design, the study analyzed data from 55 participants, including secondary school teachers and senior pedagogical students in Almaty. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire assessing research attitudes and skill deficits, followed by semi-structured in-depth interviews and task-based assessments to evaluate operational proficiency. Results indicate a bifurcation in skill formation: 47% of respondents reported developing research skills primarily during university coursework, whereas only 30% attributed their development to school practice, highlighting a disconnect in the practicum experience. The primary barriers identified were “inability to process collected data” (a cognitive-methodological deficit), “difficulties with academic literature,” and “lack of time” (a structural barrier). While participants demonstrated high intrinsic interest in research (motivational component), this was frequently undermined by low methodological self-efficacy and insufficient institutional mentorship. The study confirms a “theory-practice gap” in which university-based theoretical training fails to translate effectively into school settings. To address this, a structural model is proposed that integrates specific data-analysis modules and systematic mentoring into the teaching practicum, ensuring that future teachers possess both the motivation and the operational capacity for professional inquiry.

This study aims to examine the impact of contrastive analysis on the linguistic competence of Kazakh students. The study sample consisted of 66 basic-level Kazakh students studying Turkish as a foreign language at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, a quantitative research method, was utilized in the study. The study included an experimental group that received contrastive analysis instruction and a control group that followed traditional teaching methods. Data were collected through the Turkish Level Test and Turkish Proficiency Exam, both developed by Gazi TÖMER, along with a personal information form to collect variables affecting outcomes. A mixed-design ANOVA was used to examine both between-group differences and within-subject changes over time. The results revealed a statistically significant interaction effect, showing that contrastive analysis had a positive impact on the students’ Turkish linguistic competence. Based on these findings, it was concluded that contrastive analysis supported Kazakh students' acquisition of Turkish structures. Therefore, it is recommended that foreign language instruction—especially between typologically similar languages—integrate contrastive approaches and utilize the native language as a translanguaging resource.

This study examined whether AI-supported instruction improves (a) academic achievement and (b) attitudes towards the Kazakh literature course during the “Dramatic and Improvisational Poetic Performance (Aitys)” unit. Using a pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design, 60 juniors studying Kazakh Literature at Abai Kazakh National University in Almaty (2025–2026) were assigned to an experimental group or a control group without random assignment. The experimental group participated in a five-week AI-integrated sequence (plus one assessment week) featuring GPT-based Kazakh-language models, algorithmic dialogue simulation, synthetic voice demonstrations, and computational dramaturgy activities, while the control group received traditional instruction. Outcomes were measured with an achievement test and a 15-item Literature Course Attitude Scale developed by the researcher. Content validity was supported through a table of specifications and expert review, and items were piloted with a parallel cohort to revise borderline discrimination indices before final administration. Normality checks supported parametric testing. Independent-samples t tests compared group means. Pretests showed no significant differences in achievement. Posttests favored the experimental group for achievement and attitude. Findings suggest that AI mediation can deepen understanding of aitys and strengthen engagement with Kazakh heritage. Besides, curricula should include explicit attribution, transparency about AI assistance, and consent-based protocols for voice technologies to address concerns about voice, authorship, and cultural representation.

This study aims to explore teachers’ perceptions of virtual student mobility (VSM) as a pedagogical strategy to enhance foreign language learning and intercultural competence among third-year university students in the Faculty of English Language in Kazakhstan. Using qualitative data from in-depth interviews, the study analyzes educators’ views on incorporating VSM into the curriculum and its impact on student engagement, motivation, and cross-cultural understanding. The findings reveal that VSM enables authentic communication with international peers, fostering a global mindset and improving language proficiency without requiring physical mobility. Teachers acknowledged both the advantages and challenges of implementing VSM, highlighting the importance of institutional support and adequate digital infrastructure. This study contributes to research on internationalization at home and provides practical insights for educators and policymakers seeking to strengthen language education through virtual exchange initiatives in Kazakhstan.
