    ASSESSING TEACHERS’ MEDIA LITERACY COMPETENCIES IN SECONDARY EDUCATION
    (Ablai Khan University, 2024-12-01) ;
    M.Kh. Tankibayeva
    This article explores the evolution of teacher training methodologies and competencies in the digital era, with a focus on the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Traditional teaching models that positioned teachers as sole authorities have gradually shifted towards student-centered and communicative approaches, emphasizing psychological well-being, interpersonal skills, and socio-cultural awareness. Teacher competencies now encompass a blend of linguistic, pedagogical, interpersonal, cultural, organizational, and ICT skills. ICT tools, such as Microsoft Teams and Power BI, have revolutionized teacher-student communication and facilitated data analysis in applied linguistics. Language corpora, as textual databases, support self-directed learning and improve the teaching process by enabling teachers and students to work with authentic linguistic data. These advancements make teaching more dynamic, efficient, and engaging. The research highlights the importance of integrating ICT into teacher training programs to prepare educators for modern classroom demands. The findings suggest that developing ICT competencies and leveraging technological tools significantly enhance the effectiveness of teacher training and professional communication.

    STAKEHOLDER PERCEPTIONS OF NEW MEDIA’S IMPACT ON ENGLISH SKILLS AND MEDIA LITERACY: A CASE STUDY OF ONE SCHOOL
    (Toraighyrov University, 2025-03-28) ;
    Ardak Amangeldi
    ;
    M. Serpen
    This case study investigates stakeholder perceptions of new media’s influence on English language proficiency and media literacy within a school, focusing on insights from teachers, students, parents, and school administrators. The study addresses two core questions: how stakeholders perceive new media’s impact on students’ English skills, and the roles and challenges of media literacy in enabling students to navigate digital content effectively. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through focus group interviews involving 11 school-leavers, their parents, four EFL teachers, and the school’s principal and vice-principal, enabling nuanced discussions and multifaceted perspectives. Additionally, a web-based questionnaire, completed by 60 participants, provided supplementary insights that enriched the overall findings. Results reveal that while new media is perceived as a catalyst for autonomous learning, its unmoderated use can lead to excessive reliance, which may impede the development of essential cognitive skills, such as critical thinking and creativity. Notably, the ability to distinguish fact from opinion emerged as the lowest competency among students, underscoring a critical gap in current media literacy efforts. The study advocates for a balanced integration of digital tools in educational settings, recommending structured media literacy curricula and enhanced teacher training. Future research will extend this exploration through targeted interventions measuring the impact of digital media on English language competencies and media literacy in diverse educational contexts. This article examines the implementation of gamification and active learning methods in secondary schools and higher education institutions in Kazakhstan. The purpose of the paper is toanalyzes the role of gamification in education, its effects across different educational settings, and the primary obstacles to its effective implementation. The first section reviews the educational aspects of gamification, highlighting its role in enhancing student engagement, motivation, and the shift from traditional teaching methods toward active pedagogy. It also discusses institutional barriers, such as rigid educational frameworks that hinder gamification adoption. The second section explores the differences in gamification application between secondary and higher education. Findings indicate that secondary students respond more actively to competitive game elements, such as points and leaderboards, whereas higher education students prefer simulations and project-based learning. The study also highlights challenges, including the lack of adequate resources, underprepared educators, and the absence of effective policies supporting gamification. Finally, the paper proposes key solutions, including strengthening institutional support, developing specialized teacher training programs, increasing access to digital educational materials, and introducing curriculum flexibility to integrate innovative teaching techniques.
