    WOMEN'S AND GENDER ISSUES IN THE SCIENTIFIC PERIODICALS OF KAZAKHSTAN: QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
    (2022-10-02)
    To answer the question of how women's and gender studies are developing in Kazakhstan today, the author analyzes such a type of scientific publications as an article in an academic journal. The object of the study is scientific articles of the authors of Kazakhstan in scientific journals of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the period 2015-2022. The sample included 100 articles in Russian, Kazakh, English and French. Quantitative analysis was performed on such indicators as the number of authors of the article, the number of sources in the article, the difference between the year of publication of the most recent source in the list of references and the year of publication of the article. In addition, during familiarization with the content of the articles, the author investigated such characteristics as the culture of academic writing, the erudition of the authors, compliance with publication ethics, links to foreign and Russian sources, the quality of data analysis, etc. All this made it possible to give a generalized characterization of scientific publications, to identify their pros and cons, thereby drawing conclusions about the level of development of women's and gender studies at the stage of their current extensive development, after the rapid rise and heyday in the late 90s - early 2000s.

    Pre-service teachers’ professional identity in Kazakhstan
    (2023-04-26) ;
    Teacher education and professionalism are believed to be key to school reform in Kazakhstan (OECD, 2014). As a part of the school reform initiatives, Kazakhstan has been actively investing into teachers’ in-service professional development, teachers’ social support and school infrastructure. Interestingly, however, pre-service teacher education has not been part of those reform initiatives (Yakavets et al., 2017). Whilst teacher professionalism has been actively discussed at the in-service level, there is little to no research on it at the pre-service level. As such, this study aims at exploring future teachers’ professional identity i.e. what factors can influence the development of teachers’ professional identity at the pre-service level. A case study was conducted to explore Year 4 (graduating year) students’ experiences in one pedagogical university in Kazakhstan. The study outcomes indicate a link between pre-service-teachers’ professional identity, quality of students’ professional experiences and their emotions. The development professional identity is viewed as highly emotional process, wherein pedagogical universities must integrate self-reflection and emotional awareness in their academic programmes.

    (2024-04-02)
    Elif Ekin Akşit
    ;
    Gender studies education in Kazakhstan is facing many challenges that impede its progress and efficacy. This paper delves into the current issues plaguing gender studies education in Kazakhstan, providing an overview of the country's educational framework. A review of the education system was undertaken from a gender perspective with a focus on the higher education level. In 2019, the Directory of gender education in higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan was issued by the Institute of social and gender research of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University. Using empirical data from this publication, the authors demonstrate the spreading of Gender related courses by regions, cities, universities, subjects and lecturers. Key issues discussed include analysis of national education policies and programs in Kazakhstan, with the purpose of mainstreaming gender education and providing recommendations on strengthening gender equality in Kazakhstan. By analyzing these current issues and proposing potential solutions, this paper seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on gender studies education and advocacy in Kazakhstan.
