Тип записи:Публикация, Communicative competence development through indigenous folklore in primary EFL classrooms: evidence from Kazakhstan(Frontiers Media, 2026-09-09) ;Madina Kylyshpayeva; ;Diana Akizhanova ;Saule ZhakipbekovaGulbar TursynIntroduction Culturally responsive language education seeks to connect English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction with learners' cultural identities and local knowledge. However, classroom-based quantitative research on the integration of indigenous folklore into primary EFL education remains limited, particularly in Central Asia. This study examined changes in fourth-grade learners' linguistic, speech, and sociocultural competence following the integration of Kazakh indigenous folklore into primary EFL instruction. Methods A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test-post-test design was employed with 100 fourth-grade students aged 9–10 years at a public primary school in Kazakhstan. The 12-week intervention comprised two 45-minute lessons per week and was delivered by the regular classroom teacher. Adapted Kazakh folk narratives, cultural traditions, traditional games, storytelling, role-play, retelling, discussion, and productive language tasks were incorporated into English lessons. Learners' communicative competence was assessed using parallel pre- and post-test forms of a 25-item lexical-grammatical test, three composite speech performance tasks, and a 25-item sociocultural competence test. Paired-samples t-tests were used to examine within-group changes, and Cohen's dz and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results Post-test scores were significantly higher than pre-test scores across all three competence domains (all p < .001). Linguistic competence increased from M = 12.84 (SD = 4.63) to M = 17.92 (SD = 4.41), with a mean gain of 5.08 points and a large effect size (dz = 0.84). Speech competence increased from M = 16.27 (SD = 5.18) to M = 22.68 (SD = 4.95), with a mean gain of 6.41 points and a large effect size (dz = 0.98). Sociocultural competence increased from M = 11.96 (SD = 4.88) to M = 18.74 (SD = 4.37), producing the largest mean gain (6.78 points) and effect size (dz = 1.10). All 95% confidence intervals for the mean differences excluded zero. Discussion The findings indicate substantial within-group development in linguistic, speech, and sociocultural competence during the folklore-based instructional period, with the strongest improvement occurring in the sociocultural domain. These results suggest that culturally familiar materials may help learners connect English language use with their existing cultural knowledge and experiences. However, because the study involved a non-randomized one-group design without a control group and was conducted in a single school with one teacher, the observed improvements cannot be attributed exclusively to the intervention. The study contributes classroom-based quantitative evidence from an underrepresented Central Asian context and highlights the potential value of culturally meaningful resources in multilingual primary EFL education. - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Psychological and pedagogical conditions, DEI perception, and career agency among university students in Kazakhstan(Frontiers Media, 2026-09-15) ;Elena Barabanova ;Raushan Zhomartovna Tyulyupergeneva ;Natalya Ladzina ;Larissa NazyrovaIntroduction Labour-market restructuring and the growing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have increased interest in how universities support students' social mobility and career development. Methods This cross-sectional study examined associations among perceived psychological and pedagogical conditions, DEI perception, and career agency in 300 university students aged 18–24 from four cities in Kazakhstan. Analyses included descriptive statistics, correlations, group comparisons, hierarchical regression, bootstrap mediation, and assessment of common method variance. Results Perceived psychological and pedagogical conditions were weakly associated with DEI perception (r = 0.158, p = 0.006), whereas neither construct was significantly associated with career agency. The proposed indirect association through DEI perception was not supported. Differences by gender, educational level, and field of study were small. Discussion The findings suggest that students' perceptions of institutional support and inclusion are distinct from career agency. Positive DEI perceptions may therefore not translate directly into career-related action. Given the cross-sectional and self-reported design, causal interpretations are not warranted. Longitudinal studies should incorporate validated measures and behavioural or objective career outcomes. - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Features of the development of research competence in future special education teachers(Frontiers Media, 2025-08-29) ;Gulnur Yerzhanova ;Akbota Autayeva; ;Mira IralinaSabira NishanbayevaIntroduction Developing research competence is essential for future special education teachers to effectively analyze educational practices, conduct pedagogical research, and innovate teaching strategies for children with special educational needs. This study aimed to examine methods for enhancing research skills among students in special education programs at universities in Kazakhstan. Methods A quasi-experimental research was conducted at two Kazakh universities: Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Almaty) and I. Zhansugurov Zhetysu University (Taldykorgan). The study involved 122 third-and fourth-year students specializing in special education, who were randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 62) and a control group (n = 60). The experimental group participated in an elective course titled “Research Competencies in Special Education” and activities organized by the “Young Scientists Club.” Data collection employed a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including pedagogical experiments, surveys, standardized tests, and expert assessments. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS software with Student’s t-test to assess differences between groups. Results The experimental group exhibited statistically significant improvements (p < 0.01) compared to the control group in their ability to identify research questions, select appropriate methodologies, analyze data, and apply scientific approaches to practical tasks. Post-intervention assessments indicated that research skills in the experimental group improved markedly (average scores increased from 57.41 to 82.37%). Additionally, students reported higher motivation and confidence in using research methods. Discussion The results confirm that integrating targeted educational interventions, combining theoretical coursework and practical research experiences, effectively enhances research competence in future special education teachers. The elective course and participation in the academic club created conditions conducive to active learning and independent research practice. These findings support broader adoption of structured research-based curricula within special education teacher training programs to cultivate critical thinking and evidence-based pedagogical skills.Цитирования (OpenAlex) 2Цитирования (OpenCitations) 1 - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Digital etiquette and belief-oriented technology use among Kazakhstani pre-service teachers: a cross-sectional survey(Frontiers Media, 2026-06-04) ;Nabat Issembayeva ;Динара Рамазанова ;Zulfiya Unerbayeva; Perizat B. SeiitkazyIntroduction Digital etiquette (netiquette) is a key component of digital citizenship, yet its behavioral profile and association with belief-oriented technology use remain underexamined in bilingual teacher-education contexts. This study examined Kazakhstani pre-service teachers' self-reported digital etiquette and belief-oriented technology use, evaluated the factorial structure and language equivalence of the adapted measures, and explored whether digital etiquette was associated with instructional-technology course completion and selected background variables. Methods A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted in Winter 2024–2025 with 300 students from two Kazakhstani universities. Data were collected using Kazakh and Russian versions of the questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the measurement structure, multi-group CFA was conducted to test language invariance, and correlational and regression-based analyses examined associations among digital etiquette, belief-oriented technology use, instructional-technology course completion, GPA, year of study, and gender. Results Confirmatory factor analysis supported a two-factor structure with acceptable fit (CFI = .95, RMSEA = .06), and multi-group CFA indicated scalar invariance across language versions. Participants reported high digital etiquette (M = 4.47, SD = 0.41) and belief-oriented technology use (M = 4.30, SD = 0.48). Digital etiquette was positively associated with belief-oriented technology use (Spearman's rs = .53, 95% CI [.45, .60], p < .001). After adjustment for GPA and year of study, instructional-technology course completion was not associated with higher digital etiquette (ΔR 2 = .003; ANCOVA p = .142), and gender differences were negligible. Discussion The findings provide bilingual measurement evidence from Kazakhstan and suggest that belief-oriented technology use is associated with, but not equivalent to, self-reported digital etiquette. Because the study was cross-sectional, relied on single-source self-report data, and showed an upper-range concentration in digital etiquette scores, the results should be interpreted as exploratory and correlational rather than causal.Цитирования (OpenAlex) 1 - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Fostering emotional intelligence and self-regulation in gifted high school students: experimental evidence from a soft skills development program(Frontiers Media, 2026-01-12) ;A.E. Mukhametkairov ;Berik Matayev ;Assemgul Kalimova ;Meruyert Erkinovna UtegenovaIntroduction Gifted adolescents often receive extensive cognitive enrichment, while their emotional and self-regulatory development remains underrepresented in school programs. This study examined whether socio-emotional and self-regulatory skills can be effectively developed through a structured soft skills intervention for gifted high school students. Methods A seven-week soft skills program was implemented with 96 gifted students aged 15–16 in Kazakhstan. Participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group ( n = 48), which engaged in reflection, empathy, and time-management activities, and a control group ( n = 48), which continued regular instruction. Emotional intelligence, self-regulation, motivation, and communication skills were assessed using validated psychometric scales and expert observations (Cronbach’s α = 0.80–0.91). Data were analyzed using t-tests and ANCOVA. Results The experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvements compared to the control group ( p < 0.001), particularly in emotional intelligence and self-regulation, with large effect sizes (η 2 = 0.59–0.68). Expert evaluations also indicated increased emotional awareness, communication competence, and leadership behaviors among participants of the intervention. Discussion/conclusion The findings indicate that socio-emotional and self-regulatory competencies in gifted adolescents can be effectively enhanced through structured experiential learning. The proposed program offers a practical and scalable framework for integrating soft skills training into secondary education curricula for gifted learners.Цитирования (OpenAlex) 7 - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, A qualimetric evaluation of botany field practice: assessing the alignment between instructional materials and student learning outcomes(Frontiers Media, 2026-05-28); ; ; Elmira KozhabekovaField practice is a central component of science education; however, its quality is rarely evaluated using integrated, multidimensional frameworks. This study applied a qualimetric approach, defined as a weighted, multi-criteria evaluation method, to assess the quality of botany field-practice learning materials and students’ field-practice outcomes. Data were collected from undergraduate students ( n = 387) using a structured survey and an evaluation rubric covering seven quality dimensions. Dimension-level scores were normalized and aggregated into integral quality indices. The results indicated high overall quality for instructional materials (KQ = 0.726) and student outcomes (KQ = 0.706), with a strong alignment between instructional inputs and learning outputs. However, student performance showed greater variability across dimensions, with relatively lower scores in inquiry-based fieldwork skills and the application of theoretical knowledge. These findings show that while well-structured materials are associated with effective field-practice implementation, higher-order competencies may require additional pedagogical support. The study contributes to the literature by introducing a systematic qualimetric framework for evaluating the alignment between instructional design and student performance in field-based learning. A key limitation is that the study was conducted within a single institutional context, which may limit generalizability.Цитирования (OpenAlex) 1 - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Physical education and student mental well-being in higher education: a socio-cultural review(Frontiers Media, 2026-09-21) ;Nurzhan Temirbay; ; ;Zhambyl BeknazarovZhomart PushkulovThis review examines the role of physical education as a pedagogically grounded means of supporting student mental well-being in higher education. In the context of increasing academic pressure, sedentary lifestyles, and the growing prevalence of mental health challenges among university students, physical education is reconsidered not merely as a fitness-oriented subject but as an integrative educational practice. The study synthesizes international research on pedagogical conditions, instructional approaches, and institutional strategies that connect physical activity with psychological resilience, motivation, emotional regulation, and social engagement. Particular attention is given to student-centered and inclusive models, the integration of digital technologies, interdisciplinary courses linking physical education with health and neuroscience, and mindfulness-based and stress-reduction practices. A comparative analysis of international best practices demonstrates that positive mental well-being outcomes are most evident when physical education is embedded within supportive university policies and holistic learning environments. The findings indicate that pedagogically informed physical education enhances not only students’ physical health but also their academic functioning, sense of belonging, and long-term engagement in healthy lifestyles. The review highlights the need for integrated higher education policies that position physical education as a strategic component of student mental well-being and sustainable university development. - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Scientific and methodological foundations for integrating remote sensing (RS) data into school geography(Frontiers Media, 2026-03-13) ;Shakhislam Uzakbaevich Laiskhanov ;Zhanbolat Nurmagambetuly ;Kulyash Duisenbaevna KAIMULDINOVA ;Duman Toktaruli ALIASKAROVErzhan AbikbaevIn the era of digital transformation, the application of remote sensing (RS) data in geography education and its effective integration into the teaching and learning process has become one of the pressing educational challenges, particularly in fostering students’ spatial thinking competencies. The purpose of the study is to identify the possibilities of incorporating RS data into school geography, to develop an effective teaching methodology based on its application, and to test it in practice. The research employed a review of international publications, surveys, correlation and comparative statistical analysis, modeling, analysis of regulatory documents, and pedagogical experimentation. The survey involved 124 geography teachers from different regions of Kazakhstan, while the experimental study included 52 eleventh-grade students from one secondary school selected through random sampling (26 students in the experimental group and 26 students in the control group). The survey results revealed that 62% of teachers use satellite imagery during lessons; however, 69% of them utilize RS data primarily for visualization purposes. The results of the pedagogical experiment demonstrated that the average academic achievement of students in the experimental group increased by 18.2%, whereas the improvement in the control group was 3.6%. Furthermore, the use of RS data positively influenced students’ geospatial thinking, research skills, and analytical abilities. The study further established that the structural-content model of RS-based teaching materials developed as a result of the research can contribute to improving existing methodologies. The proposed model is designed to modernize school geography curricula, enhance teachers’ methodological capacity, improve students’ learning outcomes, and promote geospatial literacy. The findings of the study demonstrate that the systematic integration of RS data into school geography education can serve as a scientific and methodological foundation for modernizing educational content, fostering students’ contemporary scientific and technological competencies, and improving the overall quality of geographic education.Цитирования (OpenAlex) 1 - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, Procedural feedback lock-in in laboratory education: a micro–meso–macro analysis of feedback practices(Frontiers Media, 2026-08-05); ;Ayşe YALÇIN ÇELİK; ; Feedback is increasingly conceptualised as a dialogic and socio-culturally embedded process; however, little is known about how feedback practices operate across structural levels in laboratory-based higher education contexts. This study investigates how feedback is enacted across micro-, meso-, and macro-level dimensions of feedback culture in undergraduate chemistry laboratory courses within a Kazakhstani university. A qualitative case study design was employed, combining naturalistic classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. Data were collected from three laboratory instructors and 40 undergraduate students across twelve observed laboratory sessions (approximately 24 contact hours), supplemented by interviews with 3 instructors and 3 students. Observation and interview data were analysed using a hybrid deductive–inductive thematic approach guided by feedback literacy frameworks. Findings indicate that feedback was frequent but predominantly enacted at the micro level as immediate procedural correction supporting task completion and laboratory safety. Meso-level feedback processes such as reflection, feedforward, and continuity across sessions were weakly structured, while macro-level structural support for feedback was limited. These cross-level conditions produced a stable configuration conceptualised as procedural feedback lock-in, whereby corrective feedback becomes normalised despite pedagogical intentions toward developmental learning. The study contributes to feedback culture scholarship by extending feedback literacy research into laboratory-based STEM education and offering analytically transferable insights for strengthening feedback design in practice-intensive higher education environments. - Некоторые метрики заблокированы вашиминастройками согласия
Тип записи:Публикация, A systematic review of the effectiveness of teaching geoecological issues to geography students using digital technologies(Frontiers Media, 2026-09-09); ;Sagyngali Kalkashev; ;Nurbol UssenovAssan ZHELDIBAYEVThe introduction of innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching geoenvironmental issues is considered one of the key directions of contemporary educational practice. Although digital technologies and active learning strategies are widely used, their effectiveness in the context of teaching geography students has not been systematically studied. This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines: 64 relevant articles were selected, and from these, the most fully documented studies were taken for in-depth analysis. The novelty of the study lies in its comprehensive consideration of pedagogical approaches to digital technologies in geoenvironmental education, linking them to the requirements for the training of geography students. The results show that geospatial tools and immersive technologies are widely used, but that the outcomes are often limited to short-term affective indicators, indicates a lack of rigorous designs that isolate the technology's independent contribution, and that teacher preparation and institutional support remain a persistent barrier. The study proposes a conceptual model that integrates digital technologies, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary integration, and includes concrete recommendations for teachers and policymakers.
