    The image of a dog holds a special place in the culture and mythology of many peoples. This study examines how the dog became a sacred symbol associated with the afterworld, ancestral land, and subterranean realms. Using mythological texts, archaeological data, and linguistic analysis, the research identifies unique cultural and universal patterns in stable expressions about dogs in Kazakh and English. The study employs S. Qondybay's mytholinguistic method and comparative analysis to uncover the sacred and symbolic meanings of these expressions. The findings reveal that the dog is often seen as a guardian of the afterlife and a protector of human souls. The research highlights how specific cultural and linguistic features—unique to certain ethnic groups—are preserved in language. It also demonstrates the continuity of ancient mythological beliefs in modern expressions and rituals. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the connection between language, culture, and mythology, offering new perspectives for mytholinguistic and cultural research.

    This study examines how contemporary Turkic society perceives sacred Muslim names, with particular emphasis on shifting attitudes toward their usage. The usage of sacred anthroponyms in these regions has evolved under the influence of various social, cultural, and historical factors. Muslim names have long been central to the religious and cultural identity of these societies. However, processes such as modernization, globalization, and urbanization have led to substantial changes in their usage. Despite these developments and the growing trend of secularization, the concept of 'sacred anthroponyms' remains an ongoing subject of debate. This paper deals with a significant aspect of Turkic anthroponyms: proper names derived from religious beliefs. A comprehensive methodological approach, integrating both linguistic and sociocultural analyses, facilitates a nuanced understanding of the role of Muslim names in preserving traditional cultural values. This paper aims to investigate the extent to which sacred anthroponyms are preserved across generations within the category of proper names. By analyzing the spiritual and pragmatic features of sacred anthroponyms, the study assesses the influence of socio-cultural transformations on their perception within modern Turkic societies. This study opens up avenues for comparative research in other linguistic or cultural groups undergoing similar socio-cultural transformations, particularly in post-Soviet or Muslim-majority contexts. The findings make a contribution to preserving cultural heritage and understanding naming practices in the context of globalization and provide a basis for future research on the intersection between name choices, self-perception, and social identity.

    This study evaluates the validity and practicality of a novel technology-based e-learning system developed explicitly for language research methods in higher education. Recognizing the promising potential of integrating e-learning with corpus linguistics principles, the research focused on designing and assessing tools for teaching corpus linguistics-based language research. Validity was determined by examining the alignment of the e-learning content with fundamental corpus linguistic principles and established research methodologies. Practicality was assessed based on the platform's usability,accessibility, and the overall feasibility of its tools for both educators and students. Observations revealed positive adaptation from both instructors and learners, with lecturers effectively integrating diverse features and students actively utilizing the platform to access materials, collaborate, and interact. The findings confirm the success of this approach, evidenced by positive feedback regarding content clarity, relevance, and applicability. Furthermore, the e-learning media demonstrated high practicality, as indicated by both teacher and student responses. Overall, these results indicate significant potential for this e-learning system to enhance learning effectiveness, particularly in language research methods, thereby advancing empirical language studies within digital environments. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on effective technology integration in linguistics education.

    A Comparative Study of Kazakh and English Cosmonyms: Linguistic, Cultural, and Epistemological Insights
    (2025-10-15) ; ; ; ;
    S. Yessimkulova
    This article presents a comparative analysis of cosmonyms in the Kazakh and English languages, focusing on the linguistic, cultural, and cosmological frameworks that inform the naming of celestial bodies. Drawing from a wide range of linguistic and cultural sources, the study illustrates how celestial terms—such as the Crowning Stars—encode distinct cosmological worldviews, spiritual beliefs, and historical contexts. The analysis is structured around the formation processes of cosmonyms: in Kazakh, where compounding is a dominant mechanism, and in English, where naming practices are shaped by Latin and Greek etymology, scientific rationalism, and mythological heritage. While English celestial nomenclature has largely become standardized internationally, Kazakh cosmonyms reflect a dynamic interplay of traditional knowledge, Soviet linguistic influence, and contemporary efforts to revive and preserve cultural identity. The findings demonstrate both the universality of humanity's fascination with the cosmos and the uniqueness of local traditions in articulating that fascination. By examining the convergence of scientific and cultural perspectives, the study emphasizes how cosmonyms serve as bridges between rational knowledge and symbolic imagination. Through this comparison, the article highlights the critical importance of recognizing cultural diversity in celestial naming practices and advocates for inclusive, multilingual approaches to space exploration. This research contributes to the fields of linguistic anthropology and cosmology, offering deeper insights into how language and culture mediate humanity's conceptualization of space. It also lays a foundation for further interdisciplinary exploration at the intersection of language, mythology, and science.

    This article presents a linguistic analysis of the terms FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) by means of corpus analysis and other additional tools to examine their evolution, frequency and contextual usage.Through the application of Ngram Viewer, Sketch Engine and COCA data, this study traces how these terms have shifted in meaning, reflecting society’s evolving views on social participation and individual well-being. The central focus this study is on how these terms have become embedded in social media discourse, with particular attention to their implications for mental health within the context of digital engagement. Additionally, we investigate the evolution of the term FOMO, tracing its roots to earlier expressions such as “keeping up with the Joneses” and “fear of being left out.” This linguistic transformation is deeply tied to the rise of social media and the way contemporary culture has shaped the lexicon to reflect new societal realities. By examining the evolving usage and implications of FOMO and JOMO, we offer insight into the ongoing dialogue about finding balance in the complexities of digital life.
