The article considers changes in the education system during the COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic. The term “digital competence of a teacher” is disclosed and a comparative analysis of the attitude to distance learning of teachers and students using a sociological survey is made. The teachers identified the lack of direct contact with the student as the main disadvantage of distance learning, and students feel discomfort due to the inability to receive knowledge directly from the teacher. A number of problems of distance learning have been identified and a course program has been created to improve the digital competence of a teacher. The course content covers the basics of pedagogical design, rubrics of educational results, platforms for collaboration, tools for creating a video lecture, platforms for monitoring and collecting information, digital footprint and analysis, online resources of virtual laboratory work. As a result of learning, 680 university teachers and teachers of secondary schools in Kazakhstan designed their own course. At the end of the first semester, the approbation of these courses was considered. The authors performed a two-step data analysis procedure using deductive and inductive analysis methods. According to the course indicators, many of the identified problems have significantly decreased.

«Мұғалімнің кәсіби мәртебесіне қатынасын өлшеу» шкаласын қазақ тіліне бейімдеу
    (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, 2023-06-19)
This article presents a description of the process of adapting the toolkit to the Kazakh language, dedicated to measuring attitudes towards the professional status of a teacher in a sample of teachers working in secondary schools in the city of Astana. The process of adapting the toolkit included the following steps: 1) scale translation; 2) application of the scale on the sample; 3) the use of confirmatory factor analysis and interpretation of the obtained values.Translation of the scale from the original into the Kazakhwas done by thirteen doctoral students and researchers studying in Turkey and have fluent academic Turkish at the C1/B2 level. To translate the scale into Kazakh, a traditional scale adaptation approach was chosen. The scale, translated into Kazakh, was carried out for a sample (n=614) of the study.Confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirm the factorial structure of the scale translated into Kazakh and to check the compatibility of the model with the collected data. The values of conformity and factor loads obtained from the confirmatory factor analysis were studied using the AMOS 24 program. A chi-square test was studied. However, since a chi-square test is affected by sample size, it is necessary to decide whether the model data are consistent. Therefore, the analysis uses the ratio χ2/sd rather than the value itself. Confirmatory factor analysis took into account measures such as root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), comparative fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI), and good fit index (GFI). The fit values of the model as a result of the confirmatory factoranalysis are as follows; χ2/sd = 4,36; RMSEA = 0,062; CFI = 0,90; TLI = 0,89 GFI = 0,90. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, it was found that the measuring tool retained its structure from the original form and is a valid and reliable scale consisting of 25 elements with three factors, adapted to the Kazakh. In conclusion, recommendations were given on the use of a scale adapted to the Kazakh language for conducting research on the attitude of teachers and future teachers to the professional status of the teaching profession.Key words: teacher status; measuring the status of the teaching profession; adaptation of the scale to the Kazakh.

MEASURING PEDAGOGICAL-DIDACTICAL MEDIA LITERACY COMPETENCIES OF EFL TEACHERS
    (Toraighyrov University, 2024-09-26)
Media literacy competencies have become increasingly vital in the contemporary educational landscape due to the pervasive role of digital media in communication, information dissemination, and social interaction. This study measures the pedagogical and didactic competencies of 400 EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers in secondary schools regarding their ability to teach media literacy. Utilising a web-based questionnaire, the research assesses teachers’ proficiency in various instructional strategies, ranging from basic technical instruction to advanced critical and participatory teaching methods. The findings indicate a high level of competency among teachers in imparting technical skills related to media device usage, whereas competencies in fostering critical awareness and encouraging participation in public debate through media were less developed. The study underscores the necessity for a comprehensive media literacy curriculum that balances technical instruction with critical thinking and communication skills. Limitations of the study include potential biases inherent in self-reported data and the absence of contextual insights from naturalistic observations. Future research should incorporate longitudinal and observational methodologies to validate these findings and examine the integration of AI tools in media literacy education. This research provides a foundational understanding of current teaching practices and competencies, offering valuable insights for the enhancement of media literacy education strategies.

In this article, the development of in-service teachers’ digital competence is examined within an AI-supported learning environment designed to enhance professional modeling skills and the creation of interactive AR-based instructional content. The study investigates how such an environment supports teachers in developing contextual digital skills that enable not only the use of emerging technologies but also their meaningful adaptation to pedagogical goals and instructional needs. A training program involving 916 in-service teachers from Kazakhstani secondary schools was implemented, and survey data were collected to assess changes in digital competence and readiness to integrate AI and AR tools into teaching practices. The findings demonstrate high levels of interest and engagement: 96% of participants expressed readiness for further learning, 86% reported satisfaction with the course content, and 84% showed contextual maturity in applying newly acquired technologies in their instructional processes. These results highlight the potential of AI-supported professional development to strengthen teachers’ capacity to design interactive learning environments, promote equity and quality in digital education, and enhance student engagement.

The development of research competence is a critical mandate for modern teacher education, yet a significant gap persists between theoretical preparation and practical application. This study investigates the formation of research culture among future and practicing teachers in the Republic of Kazakhstan, aiming to identify key components of research competence (motivational, cognitive, operational), diagnose structural barriers, and propose a model for integrating research activities into Initial Teacher Education (ITE). Employing a descriptive mixed-methods design, the study analyzed data from 55 participants, including secondary school teachers and senior pedagogical students in Almaty. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire assessing research attitudes and skill deficits, followed by semi-structured in-depth interviews and task-based assessments to evaluate operational proficiency. Results indicate a bifurcation in skill formation: 47% of respondents reported developing research skills primarily during university coursework, whereas only 30% attributed their development to school practice, highlighting a disconnect in the practicum experience. The primary barriers identified were “inability to process collected data” (a cognitive-methodological deficit), “difficulties with academic literature,” and “lack of time” (a structural barrier). While participants demonstrated high intrinsic interest in research (motivational component), this was frequently undermined by low methodological self-efficacy and insufficient institutional mentorship. The study confirms a “theory-practice gap” in which university-based theoretical training fails to translate effectively into school settings. To address this, a structural model is proposed that integrates specific data-analysis modules and systematic mentoring into the teaching practicum, ensuring that future teachers possess both the motivation and the operational capacity for professional inquiry.
