    WOMEN'S AND GENDER ISSUES IN THE SCIENTIFIC PERIODICALS OF KAZAKHSTAN: QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
    (2022-10-02)
    To answer the question of how women's and gender studies are developing in Kazakhstan today, the author analyzes such a type of scientific publications as an article in an academic journal. The object of the study is scientific articles of the authors of Kazakhstan in scientific journals of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the period 2015-2022. The sample included 100 articles in Russian, Kazakh, English and French. Quantitative analysis was performed on such indicators as the number of authors of the article, the number of sources in the article, the difference between the year of publication of the most recent source in the list of references and the year of publication of the article. In addition, during familiarization with the content of the articles, the author investigated such characteristics as the culture of academic writing, the erudition of the authors, compliance with publication ethics, links to foreign and Russian sources, the quality of data analysis, etc. All this made it possible to give a generalized characterization of scientific publications, to identify their pros and cons, thereby drawing conclusions about the level of development of women's and gender studies at the stage of their current extensive development, after the rapid rise and heyday in the late 90s - early 2000s.

    AI-ASSISTED SCHOLARLY WRITING IN APPLIED LINGUISTICS AND LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN KAZAKHSTAN: A SCOPING REVIEW
    (Ablai Khan University, 2025-09-01) ; ;
    D. Philip Montgomery
    ;
    I.B. Baissydyk
    This scoping review studies the essential concepts and research methodologies best suited for exploring AI-assisted academic writing, with a focus on the context of applied linguistics and language education in Kazakhstan. The objectives included identifying key concepts, mapping methodological approaches, assessing emerging trends, revealing gaps and inconsistencies, and offering recommendations for improved practices. Using the PCC framework, the included studies involved scholars, educators, and students in Kazakhstan who addressed the use of AI tools in academic writing. Studies unrelated to academic writing, the Kazakhstani context, or the relevant fields were excluded. Searches were carried out in April 2025 across Scopus, Google Scholar, IEEE, and local databases, and conference proceedings 2021 and 2025 in English. A total of 40 relevant references were analyzed thematically and synthesized narratively. These studies focused on higher education and the use of tools like AI-driven writing assistants, grammar checkers, and plagiarism detection software in academic publishing. Findings indicated growing but cautious adoption of AI technologies, with common themes including improved writing quality, concerns over plagiarism, and the need for clear guidelines. The review underscores the importance of localized research, institutional policy development, and educator training to ensure ethical and effective AI integration in academic writing practices.

    The State Language in Kazakhstan's Higher Education: Admission Policy and Artificial Intelligence in Language Education
    (2026-06-25)
    This article discusses the role of the Kazakh language in Kazakhstan's higher education system amid institutional reforms, including changes in university admissions, unified national testing (UNT), internationalization, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). Despite its constitutional status, the Kazakh language's functional role in academic communication remains uneven. The study uses a policy-oriented approach, relying on legislative documents, national statistics, sociological research, and international research on higher education reform and AI in education. It pays particular attention to the interaction between perception mechanisms, language selection in standardized testing, and Kazakhstan's multilingual context. The analysis shows that admission and assessment reforms can change language incentives. Internationalization and English- and Russian-language programs create contradictions between global competitiveness and national language policy. The article examines AI as both a threat and an opportunity. AI can support academic writing and inclusive language teaching in Kazakh, but reliance on English-oriented AI models and limited Kazakh datasets can strengthen the existing language hierarchy. The article concludes that the future role of the Kazakh language depends on language policy, perception reform, and digital transformation strategies. Strategic integration of AI tools and academic language development can strengthen the Kazakh language in higher education and research.
