RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF THE PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS. DEFINITION AND CLASSIFICATION OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS(Mukhametzhan Tynyshbayev ALT University, 2023-10-19) ;Aliya Kalizhanova ;Айнур Козбакова ;Бахыт Ералиева; Unlike conventional materials, composites have become a suitable form for a range of current applications in industry, hospital and sports. This is combined with their remarkable physical, thermal, galvanic and mechanical properties, as well as, in addition, their low weight and investment cost in the given cases. This review article attempts to provide a general concept of composite materials, definition and classification of composite materials, most commonly polymer matrix composites and metal matrix composites. Polypropylene polyurethane and aluminum alloy were selected as matrices for this extract given their attractive properties and their use in various applications. All kinds of research are devoted to a variety of building materials, material processing and various properties. The determination of mechanical data appears to be a significant iterative process in the development and design of composite materials and their components. With regard to the mechanical properties of composite materials, this article highlights some of the uncertainties and limitations that affect the evaluation of mechanical properties, ranging from material constituents, industrial process, test characteristics and environmental conditions.
Sensor Systems for Measuring Force and Temperature with Fiber-Optic Bragg Gratings Embedded in Composite Materials(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, 2024-08-14) ;Aliya Kalizhanova ;Айнур Козбакова; ; Анар УтегеноваCurrently, there is a high interest in smart sensors and integrated composite materials in various industries such as construction, aviation, automobile, medical, information technology, communication, and manufacturing. Here, a new conceptual design for a force and temperature sensor system is developed by integrating fiber optic Bragg grating sensors embedded within composite materials, and a mathematical model is proposed that allows one to estimate strain and temperature based on signals obtained from optical Bragg gratings. This is important for understanding the behaviors of sensors under different conditions and for creating effective monitoring systems. Describing the strain gradient distribution, especially considering different materials with different values of Young's modulus, provides insight into how different materials respond to applied forces and temperature changes. The shape of the strain gradient distribution was obtained, which is a quadratic function with a maximum value of 1500 µ, with a maximum value at the center of the lattice and a symmetrically decreasing strain value with distance from the central part of the fiber Bragg grating. With axial strain at the installation site of the Bragg grating sensor under applied force values ranging from 10 to 11 N, the change in strain was linear. As a result of theoretical research, it was found that the developed system with fiber-optic sensors based on Bragg gratings embedded in composite materials is resistant to external influences and temperature changes.
Simulation modeling of fiber optic sensor subsystem for force and temperature measurement embedded in composite materials(2025-12-08); ;Aliya Kalizhanova ;Айнур Козбакова; Despite the extensive body of research on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors, embedding FBGs into composite materials still leaves an important challenge unresolved: improving model accuracy while preserving sensitivity under coupled thermo-mechanical loading. In this work, an integrated mathematical model of an FBG-based fiber-optic sensing subsystem is developed and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink, enabling simultaneous estimation of mechanical action (pressure/strain) and temperature from the Bragg-wavelength shift while explicitly accounting for optical, mechanical, and thermal parameters of the composite host. The model combines Bragg-wavelength shift computation with strain-optic and thermo-optic contributions, a composite stress–strain transfer that maps external pressure to axial fiber strain, transient heat transfer to the grating region, and synthesis of the reflected spectrum and optical power profile for interrogation. A calibration-based decoupling stage is included to separate thermal and mechanical components, and the Simulink workflow supports parameter sweeps and uncertainty analysis. Model outputs agree with reference/experimental data, with a discrepancy not exceeding 4% across the considered operating range. Simulations indicate a pressure sensitivity of 5–15 pm/kPa, a refractive-index sensitivity of up to 500 nm/RIU, and a tunable spectral range of 1530–1570 nm, while remaining stable under simultaneous pressure and temperature variations. The proposed model serves as a practical digital prototype for embedded FBG sensing and supports design optimization, compensation-strategy development, and structural health monitoring scenario evaluation.
